"Every voice and instrument united in one song: Free at Last!"
What is Harmony of Freedom?
Harmony of Freedom is a mulit-media documentary that celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act in 2025, telling the story of the Civil Rights Movement through an unlikely avenue - a symphony orchestra. Through playing the Montgomery Variations by Margaret Bond, a piece written during the Civil Rights Movement, and speaking with first hand witnesses and advocates such as musicologist Dr. Marva Carter, we see what it was like to be there in the moment of change. Directed by Jackson Allred, featuring host Jon Goode and current advocates for civil rights including National Center for Civil and Human Rights CEO Jill Savitt and Musicologist Dr. Marva Carter, we will also uncover what is being done today to preserve this history and carry the torch forward.
Partnering with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, Ebenezer Baptist Church, Georgia State University and WABE, this is an event that brought the whole city of Atlanta together - you do not want to miss it!
